By David Saar. A Scandinavian folksong tells of three little boats: "One was blue, one was red, and one was yellow as the sun. They sailed far out to sea. The blue one returned to the harbor. The red one sailed home too. But the yellow boat sailed up to the sun." Benjamin always concluded his bedtime ritual by saying, "Mom, you can be the red boat or the blue beat, but I am the yellow boat." This remarkable voyage of Benjamin was extensively developed and widely produced in America for several years, always to ovations. 4 men and 3 women.

THE YELLOW BOAT is based on the true story of David and Sonja Saar's son, Benjamin, who was born with congenital hemophilia, and died in 1987 at the age of 8 of AIDS related complications. A uniquely gifted visual artist, Benjamin's buoyant imagination transformed his physical and emotional pain into a blaze of colors and shapes in his fanciful drawings and paintings. The story of THE YELLOW BOAT Is a glorious affirmation of a child's life, and the strength and courage of all children. Recommended for children of age 8 and older, parents, families and adults.

By Aurand Harris. From the masterful story-teller of the stage comes a memorable retelling of the world's first classic of horses, BLACK BEAUTY by Anne Sewell. Visualized for 3 girls and 2 boys as horses and 5 males and 2 females as humans (although the human roles may be reduced by doubling) casting is obviously flexible. Open Stage. Period costumes for humans.

Imaginatively evoking a world of horses through voices, percussion, and rhythm, the playwright commences with the birth of a colt. Then from the first we follow little Black Beauty's growth, education, discoveries of the world, including unkindness, the whip, training, friends, and above all humankind. At last, In a theatrical world of horses people and adventure, Black Beauty is finally a fully grown horse, in this charming growing-up adventure. A favorite of children forever, and all horse lovers of course. A memorable success at Louisville's Stage One.

Adapted by Alan Broadhurst. From England. Lusty comedy, bright, brash, human, and live, "tuppence-coloured," about a young man who succeeded in business, through the initiative of a most unusual Cat. 5 women, 12 men, extras. Six sets. 18th century English costumes.

Arriving in London hungry and homeless, Dick Whittington acquires a cat named Samantha, which he cherishes as his sole possession. Hired as a kitchen boy by Alderman Fitzwarren, he stands in the way of Fitzwarren's dishonest apprentice, Hodge, who contrives to disgrace him and send him packing with his cat. On the way out of London, Samantha reveals a remarkable ability not only to understand the Bow bells, but to express herself in lucid terms. Using persuasive measures, she leads Dick back to London, where she sails to the Orient in Dick's interest, and by her performance at the colorful court of the Emir of Ucassee, makes a fortune for her master.

Developed from history by Helen McKenna. An historical play, dramatizing the boyhood of Andrew Jackson. 3 women, 9 men, 2 boys. Two sets. Colonial costumes.

Young Andy and his brother Robert are brought up by their untrepid mother to "be somebody in this world." But when the American patriot, Major Davie, takes refuge with them, and their house is surrounded by British regulars, they are pressed into the Colonies"' service; and Ma lets them go, with a lump in her throat, but with her blessing. The two boys are taken captive; and in the prison house, young Andy raises such a racket about the unsoldierly treatment he receives, that he comes before the notice of the British commander. When Ma arrives from a 40-mile walk, with a proposition for exchanging prisoners, the commander plays his tribute to the indomitable spirit of the Jacksons.
