Celebrating 75 years! 1935-2010 IN THE NEWS SANGRE DE UN ÁNGEL (Blood of an Angel) (Bilingual: English/Spanish) by Roxanne Schroeder-Arce was originally produced for the Emerson College Studio Series performances and tour, premiering March 22, 2008. Sangre de un Ángel, is a play about how choices we make can affect our relationships and our lives forever. While broaching issues of immigration, acculturation, and identity, Sangre....tells the story of a latino teenager who finds himself involved with a gang, leading him and his family to an unlikely tragic death. CAST: 9 (3 F, 6 M) with doubling or up to 11 (4 F, 7 M) with roles distributed. THE GREAT ALPHABET ADVENTURE by Julia Flood, is a fresh and energetic adventure into the fantasy of stories told through books and the power of discovery that is unlocked through reading and learning. This play was originally presented by Eckerd Theater Company in Clearwater, Florida. Setting simple or elaborate, as desired. Suitable for touring. Costumes styles are contemporary, enchanted, and animal. CAST: 5 (1 F, 1 M, 3 Either) with doubling or up to 9 (1 F, 1 M, 7 Either) with roles distributed. THE SAPPHIRE COMB by Moses Goldberg was originally commissioned and produced by Riverrun Theatre of Madison, Indiana, with the support of the Rivers Institute at Hanover College and the Arts Council of Southern Indiana. An original tale by one of America’s TYA master playwrights, this play is influenced in theme and style by Japanese anime and Noh spirit plays. The story voices the continuing struggle for balance and survival between humankind and the earth’s natural forces. Time: past or present. Setting may be simple or elaborate. Geographic location optional. Costumes: peasant and fantasy. CAST: 5 + (2 F, 2 M, 1 + Either) TWO DUMB DOGS By Edith Weiss. Originally commissioned and produced by Backstage Theatre in Breckenridge, Colorado. Winner of the Colorado Theatre Guild Marlowe Award for "Best Children's Play 2008," here is a very funny script whose lessons include discovering self confidence, using your brain, and that following rules is sometimes a mighty good thing. Simple set, suitable for touring. Contemporary, enchanted and animal costumes. CAST: 11 (3 F, 3 M, 5 Either) or 6 minimum (2 F, 3 M, 1 Either) with doubling. THE MAGIC STONE book, lyrics and music by Michael Mish had its premiere at The Miracle Theatre in Talent, Oregon. It’s the first day of seventh grade, and Andrew is the new kid in town. As he walks off to school, Grandpa gives Andrew a gift – a magic stone to help him get through the day. Andrew is skeptical at first, but becomes a believer when surprising things begin happening. A feel-good musical for all ages. Catchy songs. Snappy, humorous dialogue. Michael Mish understands the transitional, sometimes turbulent world of the ‘tween-aged child. Three flexible settings. Costumes: 1960s and present day. Good roles for teens and adults. CAST: 15 + (6 F, 9 M) with option to add chorus, or a minimum of 11 (5 F, 6 M) with doubling. Loosely based on the book by Paul Brett Johnson of the traditional folktale of Old Dry Frye, the late preacher man with the voracious appetite who comes back to haunt his flock! This is commedia American-style with energetic humor, physical gags, bumbling brothers, a cluck-talking chicken and a a series of uproarious adventures. Suitable for touring.
