PLAYS IN THE TRADITIONS OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
*Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan adapted by Orlin Corey (available in single script or the anthology: RELIGIOUS DRAMA: A Classic Quartet.
*The Journey of the Christmas Creatures, A Dramatic Cantata by Arthur Scholey.
Created for two choirs (one youth), music and narrative. A Christmas folk tale of the Christmas Eve miracle of the talking animals that journey towards the crib of the Christ child.
*Saint George and the Dragon by Ester Lane Porter, a Christmas Mummers play from the Middle Ages. Pageantry, dances and carols.
*Sir Gawain and the Green Knight by Dennis Scott, a New Year's or Christmas Festival play inspired by Arthurian legend.
*The Play Called Noah's Flood by Suzan Zeder, a play-within-a-play as 15th Century townspeople mount the Corpus Christi play of Noah and the Flood--from the Chester-Wakefield Cycles. (Music Score available for music that underscores the action.)
*The Second Shepherd's Play adapted by Aurand Harris from the Medieval miracle play. Based on Luke 2:6-16 plus low comedy characters of the period, it is considered the best example of comedy in early religious drama.
MORALITY OR ISSUE PLAYS
(These are SELECTED EXAMPLES drawn from the catalogue as examples of plays that can be used with youth groups or as illustrations to accompany discussions of issues. (These plays are not specific to religion or faith but deal with life experiences.) Additonal plays in the Anchorage Press Plays catalogue will address other issues of interest.
*Apologies by Brian Kral. A contemporary drama that deals realistically with a teen-aged girl's unexplained suicide.
*Certain Arrangements by C.E. McClellend. An urban, African-American teenager is placed on probation for stealing a car and is apprenticed to an elderly Italian immigrant women's flower shop. Faced with peer pressure for drug distribution, he must choose what he values.
*Newcomer by Janet Thomas. Mai Li a teen-aged refugee from Southeast Asia is plunged into a boisterous contemporary American high school of multi-ethnic cultures.
*The Pinballs adapted by Aurand Harris from the novel by Betsy Byers. Three children are bounced like pinballs from one foster home to another. They find an understanding foster mother and learn how to become a family.
*Steal Away Home adapted by Aurand Harris from the novel by Jane Driscol. Two slave boys escape from a South Carolina plantation and are helped by many people both black and white as they seek freedom. (Play uses spirituals and choir.)

*The Face is a Canvas: The Design and Technique of Theatrical Make-Up by Irene Corey. A make-up book for the beginning student as well as the advanced artist. A remarkable book of make-up methods and techniques as well as a resource book with more than 400 pictures, photographs, illustrations and paintings.
