Guidelines for Submission of Play Manuscripts

Anchorage Press PLAYS publishes plays suitable for an audience of children, young adults and families. It respectfully suggests that submissions be appropriate in subject, theme and language to universal norms for juveniles and adolescents: fantasy, fable, adventure, quest, journey, unfolding maturity,self-discovery, etc.
We publish plays for the theatrical stage that are focused on a youth audience. (Please do not submit books for children, screenplays or television scripts, novels or books of biography, fiction or non-fiction.)
Adaptations of books, beloved by young people, into a theatrical play script require authorization to create a dramatic adaptation, and permission to submit for publication. If the work is an adaptation of a work under copyright, proof of authorization to adapt and permission must accompany submission. Also see What is an Anchorage Press Play?

  1. A manuscript must be computer printed with dark ink.
  2. It should be submitted by mail and accompanied by a stamped return mailer adequate for the postage return of the manuscript.
  3. Manuscripts will not be accepted via fax or email.
  4. Please send a play script only after it has had staged productions and rewrites. We cannot accept plays for publication that have not been produced. (Please send information about productions: programs, reviews, etc.)
  5. We will consider plays with 2 or more characters. Currently we do not publish one-character plays.
  6. Please send a REVIEW SHEET (see below) with each play submission. Thank you.
